Duane Linklater // From Our Hands

Hello Everyone!

Happy totally belated New Year! Now that we are month into 2017, I hope that everyone is really getting into the swing of things. I know I sure have!

Most recently school has started back, yay for spring semester and I’ve also begun an internship at the Whitney Museum of American Art, which I’m beyond proud of!! I guess you can say that my 2017 is off to an amazing start.

In addition to school and interning, I also work part time at a contemporary art gallery– seriously I’m still trying to figure out how I balance it all. Anyways, since last fall we have been working very hard on Duane Linklater’s solo exhibition From Our Hands, which is currently on view through February 18.

Duane Linklater is Omaskeko Cree from Moose Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario. A lot of his work deals with sovereignty and indigenous identity and how those issues lend themselves to contemporary art.

With everything happening in the news about the Dakota Access Pipeline and how much indigenous peoples are fighting for the sacred land, it seems that learning about indigenous peoples and culture through art couldn’t come at a better time.
